Voices of the Middle East and North Africa – September 6, 2006

On this week’s program, Zeina Zaatari will speak to Lina Abou-Habib, the Executive Director of the Collective for Research and Training on Development and Action and an advisor for the Global Fund for Women in San Francisco. Lina Abou-Habib worked with various groups attempting to ensure humanitarian aid, relief work and resources towards contributing to steadfastness of the Lebanese people during the most recent war on Lebanon.

Later on the program, we will talk to Mike Allen about Questioning the "New Middle East": War and Resistance in Lebanon Berkeley, a teach-In, Organized by a UC Berkeley Faculty and Students, that will start at 6 PM on Thursday, September 7 at 145 Dwinelle Hall. This event will feature Judith Butler, Beshara Doumani, Saba Mahmood, Charles Hirschkind and Zeina Zaatari as speakers.

Also, on the program, Nadine Ghammache will speak to Palestinian violinist virtuoso Georges Lammam about Dreaming the Diaspora, a celebratory event that will be held on Saturday, September 9 at La Pena Cultural Center in Berkeley.
