Voices of the Middle East and North Africa

Voices of the Middle East and North Africa – August 16, 2006

On August 11, after 31 days of Israel’s war on Lebanon, the United Nations Security Council Passed Resolution 1701. To discuss the meaning of this resolution and its implications for Lebanon, Israel as well as the U.S. government and its plans for what the Bush administration calls a "New Middle East", Shahram Aghamir speaks to As`ad AbuKhalil and Richard Falk. Richard Falk is Professor Emeritus of International Law at Princeton University and Visiting Distinguished Professor in Global and International Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara. As`ad AbuKhalil is Professor of Political Science at California State University, Stanislaus, and visiting professor at UC Berkeley. He also has a blog for discussing politics, war, the Middle East, Arabic poetry, and art.

Later in the program, we will hear the poetry of Matthew Shenoda.
