Italian jazz clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi was born in Perugia and studied both modern classical music as well as jazz improvisation at the prestigious Morlacchi Conservatory from which he graduated in 1986. After performing modern music under the tuteledge of Gunther Schuller, he moved on to jazz in his first duo recording with French accordionist Richard Galliano. When he heard Egberto Gismonti perform on the guitar, he was smittened by Brazilian music and sought out Brazilian classical guitarist Sergio Assad to record.

Today’s show features his first recording with a Brazilian guitarist, Sergio Assad, in "Velho Retrato" as well as some cuts from his recording with Richard Galliano, "Coloriage". For those who enjoyed "Graffiando Vento" with Guinga featured last month, you’re in for an early morning treat.
