On Saturday from 2-6pm, Jim Bennett will celebrate the legacy of one of the most important jazz labels in history, Impulse Records. This special coincides with the release of a book by Ashley Khan and a 4 cd compilation on Impulse covering the history of the label known as "The House That Trane Built." It was the influence and inspiration of John Coltrane that fueled this label’s approach and acceptance. A one-hour radio documentary of the same name will also be heard, produced by WBGO, that tells the story of this major jazz label with a maverick spirit.

In the 1960s, saxophonist John Coltrane took his music to another level. Impulse Records came of age. Nearly forty years after Coltrane’s death, the new wave in jazz is still on Impulse.
