According to Juneteenth.com, “Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States,” and became a federal holiday in June of 2021.
Along with cities across the US, Juneteenth celebrations are happening all across the bay area! Starting in San Francisco, there are multiple events happening across the city over the weekend. Check out this guide here to see a full list.
On June 19th, don’t miss the 35th annual Berkeley Juneteenth Festival, from 11AM to 7PM. More info here.
On June 25th, in West Oakland, B.H. Brilliant Minds Project holds it’s15th Annual West Oakland Juneteenth Celebration and Festival from 11am to 6pm. For more information, visit bhbrilliantminds.org.
