A live doubleheader on The Hear and Now, 10 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25: The Sheldon Brown Group, plus Michael Goldberg and Johnny Harper

In a special, live, in-studio concert, reed virtuoso and composer Sheldon Brown (alto sax, clarinet, bass clarinet, and laptop) leads an all-star Bay Area septet that includes Darren Johnston on trumpet, Alan Hall on drums, John Finkbeiner on guitar, Michael Wilcox on bass, Andrew Joron on Theramin, and the extraordinary vocalist Lorin Benedict. Poetry by the late Philip Lamantia will be worked in as well.

On Saturday, October 27, the Sheldon Brown Group will celebrate the upcoming release of the new CD, Blood of the Air, at The Back Room in Berkeley.

In the second hour, renowned author and rock ’n’ roll journalist Michael Goldberg reads from his essay “Bob Dylan’s Beat Visions,” which appears as a chapter in the new book Kerouac on Record, exploring Jack Kerouac’s relationship to music, and singer-guitarist Johnny Harper will perform live versions of the classic Dylan songs Michael discusses in his essay. It’s a preview of their Friday, November 9th performance at The Beat Museum in San Francisco. Plus: a track from the forthcoming Dylan Bootleg Series box set, More Blood, More Tracks, and ticket giveaways!
