On October 11, agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement followed Fernando Carrillo as he took his four-year-old to daycare. Then they gave him a choice: you can go free, now, in Mexico. Or you can stay here to fight your deportation from a jail cell.
His wife, Lourdes Barraza, was already raising three kids and holding down a job. Now she was seeking out lawyers, chasing down evidence in Mexico, speaking at rallies, and organizing a public campaign.
Six months later, they won — and the day after Fernando got out, they came to KPFA to tell their story.
