In today’s episode we hear audio from an event called Thangs Taken: Rethinking Thanksgiving, that took place at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley on Sunday, November 19th, 2023. As we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday, the purpose of the event, was to challenge colonial narratives, support our native communities, and to reflect on our relationship to the colonized lands that we occupy.
Before the pandemic, Thangs Taken was an annual event, and for the first time since the pandemic, it has returned, and to a sold out audience. It’s a political and a community space, and it is also where the Shuumi Land Tax was launched, eight years ago this week.
The voices we’ll hear from the event are Krea Gomez, George Galvis, Brook Thompson, Desirae Harp, Ariel Luckey, and Mapuche Lonko Juanita Millal.
