Opposition to Sacramento’s jail expansion plan w/ Katie Valenzuela & Flojaune Cofer

For three years in Sacramento, the sheriff has been trying to expand their local jail but the community has been pushing back against the jail expansion. In this episode we speak with the co-authors of a statement published in the Sacramento Bee: “Sacramento County wants to expand its troubled downtown jail. That’s a terrible idea.” Our guests are Katie Valenzuela, the Sacramento City councilmember for District 4, which includes Downtown Sacramento, as well as Flojaune Cofer, the Senior Director of Policy at Public Health Advocates. She is an epidemiologist who is focused on public health prevention and restorative justice initiatives in California.
