June Jordan was a Professor of African-American and Women’s Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She reads several of her poems and an essay called “The Evening Malcolm X Died.” Poets and Politicians Against the War – BROADCAST: KPFA, Mar. 1991.

Jordan is author of 19 books countless articles and several plays. She was one of the most published African-American writers in history. She was a professor of women’s studies African American studies at UC Berkeley…June Jordan said “ I don’t understand why I would want to be an artist of any kind except in order to reach as many people as possible and why would I want to do that except for some political purpose or something having to do with the common good.”
