Dr. Monica Gandhi on DIY N-95 Masks

Dr. Monica Gandhi on Upfront speaks on how you can protect yourself from new strands of the coronvirus with the following tips on wearing a mask:

With more transmissible viruses, we would be wearing a mask with more fit infiltration. It’s either an N-95, which are harder to get and also very uncomfortable, or what we recommend, is actually layering of two masks, a piece of cloth and a surgical mask, together. So two masks, but one’s cloth and one surgical. Why? Because the surgical has this electro-static repulsion, so it does more than the cloth , and then the cloth has fiber layers, which blocks the virus. Those two together; simulate an N-95’s blocking capability.

The fabric should be two layers of cloth and a preferable high thread count. You can either put the cloth next to your face, or the surgical next to your face. I recommend the surgical out, is that you can then re-use it, because you can’t re-wash the surgical, but you can’t rewash the cloth. Use it until its sagging on the sides, usually after about 5 days. And that is our cheap and simple way to simulate an N-95 mask.
