All violence is state violence – Brenda Grisham, mother of Christopher LaVell Jones, a victim of Oakland street violence

Christopher LaVell Jones was born in Oakland, CA, August 25,1993. Christopher received his early education in Oakland and Sacramento California. Christopher attended American High School in Fremont, CA and later attended East Oakland School of the arts, where he was a honor student. He was enrolled in Cal State East Bay in Hayward, at the time of his death.

On New Year’s Eve 2010 he became Oakland’s 95th and last homicide victim of the year. He was slain at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 31, 2010, outside the family’s home near the Eastmont Town Center. Jones, his sister and the others had eaten dinner and were on their way to see the father of the 5-month-old grandchild. Police said at the time there was no reason for the ambush. Jones may have been mistaken for the wrong person. Gipson still has two bullets in her foot.

Christopher was a self taught musician, he could plan any instrument you placed in front of him. Christopher loved to sing and also wrote music. His legacy will live on through the people who loved him most. His birthday is August 25th. He would have been 29 years old.

Were joined today by Christopher’s mother Brenda Grisham – also the founder of the Christopher LaVell Jones Foundation.
