Law & Disorder

Hawaiʻi, Decolonization & Healing: Conversations with Camille Kalama, Kyle Kajihiro, and Dr. Liza Rankow

On today’s rebroadcast of Law & Disorder, Cat Brooks revisits two conversations exploring the connections between history, justice, and collective healing.

In the first segment, Cat speaks with Camille Kalama, Executive Director of Koʻihonua, and Kyle Kajihiro, professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, about the history and ongoing impacts of U.S. occupation and militarization in Hawaiʻi, as well as Native Hawaiian struggles for sovereignty and self-determination.

In the second segment, Cat is joined by Dr. Liza Rankow, interfaith minister, educator, and author of Soul Medicine for a Fractured World: Healing, Justice, and the Path of Wholeness. Together, they discuss healing as a practice of justice, our interconnectedness with one another and the natural world, and the role of spiritual resilience in movements for social transformation.

This episode’s Resistance in Residence artist is Palestinian American multimedia artist, musician, and MC Tarik “Excentrik” Kazaleh.
