Around the world, indigenous communities are fighting for and winning long-awaited legal and political recognition from international governmental bodies, including the United Nations. At times this recognition leads to special laws and status for First Nations peopleŠ but some say this new status comes at a cost: the loss of true self-determination for their communities.
On this edition, we hear from lawyers and scholars representing these indigenous communities who spoke at ³Transformative Justice in Communities of Color² an event held at the University of California at Berkeley, in September 2008.
