Protecting Queer Families Ahead of a Trump Presidency; Trans Athletes in California; Plus Resistance in Residence Artist 67 Sueños

On today’s show, we start with a conversation with two lawyers from All Family Legal in conversation around how to protect queer families before the next Trump presidency.
Our guests are Alana Chazan and Amira Hasenbus, the co-founders of All Family Legal. Alana heads the practice’s litigation arm, with a focus on divorce and custody.  She is a family law attorney and mediator who has worked in family law since 2009, and previously developed family law, domestic violence and immigration legal services for low-income gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender survivors of domestic violence. Amira handles the firm’s family formation cases, which include adoption, surrogacy and sperm and egg donation. She previously researched and published reports on LGBTQ law and policy, including discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, family law issues for transgender parents and children, and the legal needs of people living with HIV. Both are past recipients of the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association’s 40 under 40 award.

Then, exploring how California keeps transgender student athletes on the court as bans unfold across the country, in conversation with Desmond Meagley, a fellow with the College Journalism Network, which is a collaboration between CalMatters and student journalists from across California, whose latest piece for CalMatters is titled, “How California keeps transgender student athletes on the court as bans unfold across the country”.

This week’s Resistance in Residence artist is a duo from the youth organizing group 67 Sueños.
