Fund Drive Special: The Oakland International Film Festival and Rashid Khalidi

In a recent episode of Hard Knock Radio, host Davey D spoke with David Roach, the co-founder of The Oakland International Film Festival about the upcoming film festival. The Oakland International Film Festival is presented by The Oakland Film Society, a non-profit corporation based in Oakland, California. The mission of the film festival is to promote independent filmmakers and the stories they tell to empower people locally, nationally and internationally.

Later we presented a talk featuring Rashid Khalidi and Nora Barrows-Friedman. This KPFA talk with Rashid Khalidi professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University and Nora Barrows Friedman explored the history of one hundred years of war waged against the Palestinians as told through pivotal events and family history.

Rashid Khalidi wrote the book, The Hundred Years War on Palestine is not a chronicle of victimization, nor does it whitewash the mistakes of Palestinian leaders or deny the emergence of national movements on both sides. In reevaluating the forces arrayed against the Palestinians, it offers an illuminating new view of a conflict that continues to this day.

Hard Knock Radio is a drive-time Hip-Hop talk show on KPFA (94.1fm @ 4-5 pm Monday-Friday), a community radio station without corporate underwriting, hosted by Davey D and Anita Johnson.
