On today’s show, first – a recall effort against Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao has begun. This comes alongside the ongoing recall efforts of Alameda County’s District Attorney Pamela Price and is reflective of right wing efforts across the country to draw progressive cities to the right and build a voting base ahead of the 2024 election cycle. Joining us to discuss is Saabir Lockett, founder and executive director of Pathways 2 Peace as well as lead organizer of the 4 Peace Coalition. We are also joined by Pastor Jeremy McCants, an activist and independent faith leader.
Then, the Black Panther Party’s Oakland Community School is turning 50 this Saturday and theres an event to celebrate it. We are joined this morning by Fredrika Newton – the Co-founder of the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation, former Black Panther Party member, and widow of Dr. Minister Huey P. Newton, as well as Gregory Lewis – a former student and alumni of the Oakland Community School.
