Antioch’s New Non-Police Emergency Response; Plus, Latest From The Oakland Teacher Picket Lines

Despite our need to raise funds in this hour, we are pursuing regular Thursday coverage for Law & Disorder. If you want to show us that this is the right decision, donate with a pledge and a comment letting us know!

We start the hour with our regular weekly State Terror Roundup segment.

Then, we go to Antioch, where the city has committed to creating a 911 emergency response program that does not involve police. We’re joined by Antioch City Councilmember Tamisha Torres-Walker, as well as Elliott Jones, the program coordinator for Oakland’s MACRO non-police 911 emergency response program.

FUND DRIVE SPECIAL – Pledge $125 and receive a soft and cozy KPFA hoodie. This one is zippered, black, and on the front says “94.1FM – KPFA”, while on the back it reminds us that we need to be “Vigilant As Always”.

Then we go to the front lines of the Oakland teachers’ strike to hear the latest in their bid for a fair contract with the Oakland Unified School District. We’re joined by Kampala Taiz-Rancifer, the Vice President of the Oakland Education Association and a founding member of the Black Women’s Caucus. The Oakland Education Association represents nearly 3,000 K-12 teachers, Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Speech Pathologists, Early Childhood Educators, Nurses, Adult Education Teachers, and Teacher Substitutes.
