Our reporter Lucy Kang spoke with Javier, who has been there for the past 13 months. Javier, who is only using his first name, described filthy conditions – including sewage flooding into the unit – and continuing transfers within the facility that is exacerbating the spread of COVID-19. Advocates are calling for every detainees’ release and the decision to keep these remaining 17 people left in ICE detention at Yuba County Jail, “arbitrary.”
