First, a new documentary about a young Syrian refugee named Dalya who emigrated to the US some years ago called Dalya’s Other Country, touches on refugees and immigration, religion, gender, and more. We’ll speak with the filmmaker Julia Meltzer and the subject of the film, Dalya Zeno. Then, 16-year old Minnah Arshad joins us to talk about her new novel, Kindness is a Waiting Place: The life-changing encounter between an American woman and a Syrian boy. Finally, author John O’Brien joins us to discuss his fascinating new book, Keeping It Halal: The Everyday Lives of Muslim American Teenage Boys.
