National Guard Deploys in Baltimore; Kathy Kelly on Prison

Thousands of National Guard troops deploy in Baltimore after days of protest and violence, placing the city under a nighttime curfew. We get a live report from the streets, and talk about the history that made Baltimore into a powder keg.  Plus: veteran peace activist Kathy Kelly is just out from a three-month stint in federal prison for protesting at a military base that carries out drone strikes. We’ll talk about prison . . . from the inside.

Guests:

  • Jaisal Noor, Baltimore native and reporter for The Real News Network
  • Natasha Pratt-Harris, Associate Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice Program Coordinator at Morgan State University in Baltimore
  • Kathy Kelly, longtime peace activist who’s worked extensively in Iraq and Afghanistan, currently co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence.

One response to “National Guard Deploys in Baltimore; Kathy Kelly on Prison

  1. Back in 2011 during the Arab Spring in Egypt americans were cheering on the rock throwers and rioters. But when this happens in the US, and even on such a smaller scale of rioting and vandalism in Baltimore, most americans say oh my god these blacks are horrible…hypocrisy.
