Volunteer Receptionist Position at KPFA

Are you a people person who enjoys being the first point of contact in a dynamic environment? Do you have solid computer skills and a calm, helpful demeanor? KPFA is looking for dedicated volunteer receptionists to help greet visitors, answer calls, and keep things running smoothly at our front desk.

Responsibilities include:

  • Answering and fielding phone calls
  • Checking and fielding emails
  • Listening to and relaying voicemails to staff
  • Greeting and assisting guests
  • Monitoring the front lobby and ensuring a welcoming environment

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable using computers (email, basic typing, copy/paste, etc.)
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-directed
  • Able to maintain calm and professionalism at all times
  • Experience in reception or front-desk roles a plus

Commitment:
We ask volunteers to commit to at least one 6 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. This helps ensure consistency at our front desk and allows time for proper training and support.

Shifts Available:

Morning, midday, and afternoon shifts are available Monday through Friday between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Let us know your availability when you apply.

Note: This is an active desk. Volunteers must be able to focus, follow instructions, and represent the station with care.

Phone Room Volunteer

Similar to other listener-funded radio stations, KPFA’s fund drives involve on-air appeals and special programming to encourage donations, or “pledges”, from listeners. Phone Room Volunteers support KPFA by answering donor calls and processing pledges. By being conduits of pledges, Phone Room Volunteers play a critical role in helping raise funds for KPFA and its diverse programming. Phone Room Volunteers report to KPFA’s Membership Coordinator or assigned KPFA staff member.

Responsibilities include:

  • Answer donor calls during KPFA’s Fund Drives
  • Enter donor and pledge information into KPFA’s donor database.
  • Follow KPFA’s phone scripts and volunteer policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Must have experience in a customer service role or transferable skills in this area.
  • Must have experience navigating various computer software and applications.
  • Must have fundamental computer skills which include using search functions and drop down menus.
  • Must attend a 1.5 hour Phone Room Training and Volunteer Onboarding before beginning first shift.

Shifts Available:

  • Multiple shifts available Monday – Friday during fund drives only.
