Producers are required to communicate with the engineer/board operator via email to [email protected], in person, or via Slack #on-air at the following deadlines:

  • TAPED Shows: Deadline is by 12 p.m., one business day prior to the program.
  • TAPED Music Shows: The Deadline is to coordinate with fellow music programmers and the engineering department by 12 p.m., one business day before the program.
  • LIVE In-Studio Shows: The Deadline is 30 minutes before the program. All parties need to meet or communicate. Producers provide a printed run sheet, and technical producer/board op verify sound elements.
  • LIVE Remote Shows: The Deadline is 30 minutes before the program. Producers email run sheets and communicate with the technical producer. Technical producer/board op connect with the remote studio and perform audio-level checks.
  • LIVE Music Shows: The Deadline is to physically check in with the previous programmer or technical producer, without interruption of the air, 15-30 minutes before the show.
  • LIVE Music Show with Performance: The Deadline is to be present for setup at least 2 hours before the show. Hosts and producers coordinate with music & sound engineers and prepare a Plan B.
    • Reminder: The board operator might be working on a live show before yours. Content and run sheets must be submitted 30 to 60 minutes before a LIVE show.

Ramification: For Hosts and Producers that miss the deadline, an evergreen show will be played to ensure continuous and uninterrupted programming.

If no evergreens are available, content featuring the following announcement will be played: “Up next, special KPFA programming. Please tune in next week for your regularly scheduled program.”

If two evergreens are played within 30 days due to absence or late communication, management will review the program for suitability.
