Hard Knock Radio is a public affairs program, covering news, views and hip-hop, nationally and internationally and is heard Monday through Friday 4-5pm PST 94.1 FM in the Bay Area and online at kpfa.org

Hard Knock Radio is a show on KPFA, a community radio station without corporate underwriting. This allows HKR the freedom to provide an outlet for national and international urban artists and musicians largely ignored by the Hip-Hop media.

Hard Knock Radio is a daily public affairs show for the Hip-Hop generation. Hosts of HKR, Davey D and Anita Johnson, give voice to issues ignored by the mainstream while planting seeds for social change. The show focuses on issues relevant to youth and the disenfranchised, especially communities under served and misrepresented by corporate-owned mainstream media. HKR was founded by Davey D, Weyland Southon, Tsadae Neway and Anita Johnson in August 2000.

HKR supports and celebrates the efforts of people engaged in struggles for community upliftment, justice, freedom, peace and self determination. They offer exclusive interviews and host panel discussions with people working from a variety of disciplines: authors, youth leaders and activists, thinkers, community leaders, elected officials, cultural icons, and artists. Dedicated to bringing the issues forth that matter, and playing artists you love to hear.

The HKR Opening theme was produced by Anita Johnson.

The program is syndicated in WRFG – 89.3FM in Atlanta Georgia, Radio X in Seattle Washington, WERU – East Orland, ME – 89.9FM, KPVL- Decorah, IA – 89.1FM, KBCS – 91.3 FM in Bellevue, WA, KBOO -90.7 in Portland Oregon and WAZU 90.7 FM in Peoria IL, Kansas City, Missouri – KKFI 90.1 FM.
