As a board operator, you are responsible for what goes on air. Pay attention to guests, callers, music, audio files, and even hosts to make sure that no indecent content is broadcasted. If an expletive or an indecency makes it on air, you must immediately press the Dump button which will “dump” or cut out the last 5 seconds of broadcasted material. We run a 15 second delay that rebuilds after the last dump, if you dump 3 times in 30 seconds there is no more audio buffer available and so the dump will not work.

If it is the guest, or caller that said the expletive or indecent content, the host should advise them to refrain from using that type of language. If it happens again, you as the board operator should silence the guest or caller by turning off their fader.

If the expletive or indecent material is made through a music piece, a pre-recorded interview or a piece of spoken audio, hit the dump button after the first incident. If the foul language continues, cut off the source by turning off the audio source’s fader.

If it is the host that said the expletive or indecent content, remain vigilant. If it appears as though the host will continue to use such language, you as a board operator must interrupt the program by going straight to music.

If you as a board operator do not press the dump button on time and indecent content such as an expletive goes on air, you must fill out a Sensitive Language Report and submit a copy to both the Program Director and the General Manager.
