The Sibarg Ensemble performs live on The Hear and Now, 10 p.m., Thursday, August 8, 2019

Founded in 2008 in Tehran and dedicated to multiculturalism and peace, the Sibarg Ensemble brings together traditional Iranian music and jazz through original compositions, arrangements of classical melodies and folk songs, and structured improvisations. A trio version of the ensemble–Sara Saberi, oud, Hesam Abedini, vocals and Persian percussion, and Josh Charney, piano and keyboards–performs in the KPFA studio, hosted by Derk Richardson, with Tony Ferro engineering the live sound. A quartet version, with drummer Jordan Glenn, performs Friday, August 9, at the Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco, and Saturday, August 10, at a private house concert in Berkeley.
