Took a month off but back with 5 new songs that have rocked my world for the last 30 days. Hopefully these become your new favorite songs.
Songs to Obsess Over & Over
June 2026
Nina Simone – See-Line Woman (Mochakk Mix)
(Verve)
Shout out to https://www.ververecords.com/ for not being afraid to embrace and celebrate Electronic Music and the art of Remixing. After the successful Verve Remixed series, people have been waiting for it’s return and it seems like we are getting in the form of a Nina Simone Remix album. This is the 2nd release of 3 new remixes that have dropped in the last couple of months and this one by far is the stand out. Brazilian DJ/Producer Mochakk brings his unique take on Nina’s classic rendition of “Sea Line Woman”. This is by far my favorite remix of 2026 by anyone. It just bumps so hard and almost has a Disclosure vibe to it. Truly Incredible.
Jungle – The Wave
(Caiola)
Jungle is the rare breed of bad that started off good and continuously gets better. They’re set to drop their latest studio album, Sunshine in August and hitting the Bay Area for a [air of shows at the Berkeley Greek. The Wave is a warm fun uptempo joint that is designed to make you feel the sunshine down on you in the most comforting way. This one def has cousin of Back on 74 meets Dominos vibes in it’s vocals from the always incredible Lydia Kitto. This is a summer anthem built for the beach.
Clinique Lacuna – You & I feat. Natalie Bouclette
(Friendsome)
Taking it back to simpler times when no one really had cell phones but the streets had a beat. Paris’s own Clinique Lacuna drops a song that is so good and convincing I am having a hard time believing it’s not a hidden gem from mid -ate1980’s Freestyle scene. Complete with 80’s vocoder and massively catchy hook by vocalist Natalie Bouclette, dipping back and froth from English to French, this song is totally rad(tapping into my 80’s childhood lingo). If there’s one genre I’d love to see return, it’s freestyle.
Ibibio Sound Machine – Concept of Love
(Merge)
What is your concept of love, asks Eno Williams on the latest absolute banger from London based Ibibio Sound Machine. The 2nd single off of their forthcoming album, Chopping Mountain, is set to drop on Merge on September 11th. They keep it funky, four to the floor with it’s buzzsaw bass and killer guitar riffs and signature Ibibio horn sections. They even use the classic 80’s vocoder to add the cherry on top.
Alewya – Cairo FM
(LDN)
British based, Saudi Arabia born Alewya just released her impressive debut album “Zero” and delivers a blend of styles and genres singing and rappin’ in both English and Arabic. She’s one of the more unique voices to come out of the UK. Cairo FM is an addictive dance record that’s funky and blends in it’s lyrics, elements from Lauren Hill’s parts of the Nas classic, “If I Ruled The World” and (this made me smile) “Ima Read” by Zebra Katz, which is a slept on classic. Do not sleep on this album, your soul needs it.
