Listen to legendary singer Barbara Dane on “The Hear and Now,” with Derk Richardson, 10 p.m. Thursday, May 3

Celebrating the release of a new double CD anthology, Hot Jazz, Cool Blues and Hard-Hitting Songs, a survey of 60 years of her music, singer and activist Barbara Dane returns to KPFA to share music from the new collection and talk with host Derk Richardson about her career, her music, her politics, and such new developments as a documentary film in the works by Maureen Gosling, a forthcoming autobiography, and the Barbara Dane Legacy Project. On May 12, Barbara will celebrate her 91st birthday, and on May 17 she will appear in a CD-release concert at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, along with the Tammy Hall Trio (Tammy Hall, piano; Ruth Davies, bass; Daria Johnson, drums), with special guest from Cuba Pablo Menendez (harmonica and guitar).
