California’s first-in-the-nation task force on reparations was created in September of 2020, making it first and only state to study the institution of slavery and its harms and to devise a plan as to how to provide reparations. An initial report came out earlier this summer, and a reparations proposal is due by July 2023 for the state legislature to consider turning into law. Jeannine Etter has this report.

First aired on UpFront on November 17, 2022.
