Lateefah Simon announces run for Barbara Lee’s seat; Plus: Black Panther Party Graphic Novel Fundraising Special

On today’s show, we’re joined by Lateefah Simon, who announced her election campaign for the 12th Congressional District seat that is being vacated by Barbara Lee. Lateefah Simon is a 25-year veteran organizer and nationally recognized advocate for civil rights and social justice. In 2016 – driven into politics by the tragic murder of Oscar Grant – Lateefah was elected to the BART Board of Directors, and has served there since. She was also appointed in 2020 as a senior advisor on police reform for California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Then, we speak with David Walker, award-winning comic book writer, filmmaker, journalist, and educator to discuss his latest graphic novel The Black Panther Party: A Graphic Novel History (Art by Marcus Kwame Anderson).

FUND DRIVE SPECIAL – Pledge $100 and receive a copy of The Black Panther Party: A Graphic Novel History by David F. Walker. Pledge $100 and receive another book by the same author: The Life of Frederick Douglass: A Graphic Narrative of a Slave’s Journey from Bondage to Freedom both by David F. Walker.
