LA Sues Watchdog Group For Publishing Public Records; Plus, SFPD Receives All The Funding

We start today’s show in Los Angeles, where the City and its police department are upset that a police watchdog group called Stop LAPD Spying Coalition has released public records of individual LAPD officers including their headshots and salaries, and are now suing even though they are the ones who initially released the photos. Joining us is Hamid Khan, Coordinator and Organizer with the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition.

Then to San Francisco, where London Breed flip flops again – when non-carceral response to mental health crisis was dominating the headlines she vowed the city would lead with such programming, but now while at the same time fighting for more police funding, she is refusing to support alternative responses to community crisis. Joining us to discuss is Jennifer Friedenbach, Executive Director of the San Francisco Coalition on Homelessness.

Continuing our conversation about London Breed’s spending priorities, we speak with Tim Redmond, founder of San Francisco-focused independent news site 48hills. Tim Redmond has been a political and investigative reporter in San Francisco for more than 30 years. He spent much of that time as executive editor of the Bay Guardian.
