Today WorkWeek will look at the fight for health and safety for the workers and community in Richmond at the Chevron refinery. The explosion and continued contamination have raised questions about why the Chevron managers seem to be impervious to any oversight and regulation to this continuing health hazard. We will talk with health and safety experts and health and safety union experts.
We will also examine the efforts of supporters of single payer healthcare in California to get closer to universal healthcare and why no bill has been introduced in this year’s session of the California legislature for single payer despite many unions supporting this initiative.
We’ll also look at the lockout of ILWU Northwest grain workers by Mitui owned United Grain and the use of replacement workers in the Port of Vancouver, Washington.
Finally we will have our labor calendar of union and worker events.
