On this week’s program, we will hear a discussion on the upcoming elections in both Israel and Palestine, between two prominent voices on the subject of Israel/Palestine, one Israeli, the other Palestinian; activist and journalist Uri Avnery, and our very own history professor, Beshara Doumani of UC Berkeley.
Later in the program, we will take a look at the Berber New Year or Yanayer, and the rich and ancient traditions and rituals associated with it with Berber Amazigh ethnologist Helena Hagan. This year Yanayer will be celebrated this Saturday in a major event put together in Berkeley by a number of Amazigh activists and musicians, including Berkeley-based Algerian musician Moh Alileche.
