Tools of Resistance

1. Immigration & ICE Encounters

The Trump Administration has spread fear in immigrant communities with the initiation of raids, arrests, and deportations. In California, immigrant rights groups and local counties have established rapid response networks to respond to reports of ICE raids and ascertain whether a raid is actually underway. Immigrant rights groups urge community members to publicly spread information on a reported ICE raid only if it is confirmed. They say sharing unconfirmed reports spreads fear and prevents people from living their lives.

Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC)
Provides education and advocacy to advance immigrant rights. ILRC offers a “Know Your Rights” card, available in 16 languages, that outlines what to do if approached by immigration agents.

Key Tips from ILRC:

  • Do not open the door if an immigration agent is knocking.

  • Do not answer questions from ICE. You have the right to remain silent.

  • Do not sign any documents without first consulting a lawyer.

  • If outside your home, ask if you’re free to leave—if yes, walk away calmly.

  • Show the Know Your Rights card through the window or under the door.
