The Education of The Black Child

We speak with Dr. Venus Evans-Winters and Hodari B. Davis about the education of Black children, in particular Black girls.

Dr. Venus Evans-Winters is former Professor of Education Policy and Research at Illinois State University in the Department of Educational Administration. She is also the Founder of Planet Venus and creator of the Write Like A Scholar program.  Evans-Winters teaches Critical Race Theory in Education and Social Foundations of Education, and also instructs courses in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. Black Feminism in Qualitative Inquiry (BFQI), published in 2019 by Routledge, is the seventh book she has authored or co-edited.

Hodari B. Davis is the Chief Innovation Officer and a partner at Edutainment for Equity. He is also the Artistic Director of E4E Arts, which includes the award-winning youth performance ensemble Young Gifted and Black.
