Christopher Moore, “Razzmatazz,” 2022

Christopher Moore, author of the novel “Razzmatazz,” a sequel to “Noir,” and other novels, in conversation with host Richard Wolinsky.

Christopher Moore has developed a following devoted to his blend of fantasy and comedy in his eighteen novels and his short stories. His first novel, Practical Demonkeeping, was sufficiently successful that he was able to start writing full time while living first near Santa Barbara and later in San Francisco.

His novel Bloodsucking Fiends, a comic novel about vampires, grew a sufficient audience over the years to warrant two sequels, You Suck and Bite Me.

His latest novel, Razzmatazz, and its predecessor, Noir, is set in San Francisco at the beginning of the post-war era, in 1946, and deals with cross-dressing and lesbian bars, Chinatown, the African American community, and various national and international gangsters, as well as having both science fiction and fantasy elements.

In this wide-ranging interview, he discusses his latest work, and gives a history of his writing career, and discusses the difficulty of writing satire in a world of Trumpism, QAnon and Rudy Giuliani.
