For most shows, legal identification is handled by the last cart at the top of the hour, which is why it is important to adhere to the schedule and ensure Automation/DAD handles carts.

Pre-recorded shows are NOT required to make a legal ID. Only LIVE shows and special broadcasts that interrupt carts (run to, or past, the top of the hour) are required to announce a legal identification.

FCC on Translator Legal Identification:

The identification (of translator stations) must occur 3 times daily: once between 7 AM and 9 AM, once between 12:55 PM and 1:05 PM, and once between 4 PM and 6 PM.

For special broadcasts during the above mentioned time slots, the longer legal ID is:

You’re listening to 94.1 KPFA Berkeley, 89.3 KPFB Berkeley, 88.1 KFCF Fresno, 97.5 K248BR Santa Cruz, 94.3 K232FZ Monterey, and online at KPFA.ORG

For live shows NOT during the above mentioned time slots, the shorter ID is:

You’re listening to 94.1 KPFA Berkeley, 89.3 KPFB Berkeley, 88.1 KFCF Fresno, and online at KPFA.ORG

If there’s ever any doubt, it’s best to have automation perform the legal ID at the top of the hour.
