Susan James comes north from Southern California for two concerts, including one in Berkeley on Saturday at Ashkenaz, but she stops by KPFA first–with her acoustic guitar, bassist Jason Chesney, and pedal steel ace Tom Heyman–to share songs from her new (and fifth) CD, “Driving Toward the Sun.” She describes her music as “California Hybrid–melodic psychedelic country folk rock.” If that makes you think of the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Bros., it should.
