After capturing widespread attention with her debut CD, One Room Palace, Bay Area singer-songwriter Odessa Chen follows it up with the gorgeous new recording, Ballad of Paper Ships. The Baltimore native is classically trained in voice and cello but self-taught on guitar, which she plays to fine textural effect on her moody, atmospheric songs, accompanied by bassist Devin Hoff and drummer Rich Douthet. Previewing her CD-release trio concert show at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in San Francisco, Chen performs solo — guitar and voice — in the KPFA studio on the Hear & Now.
