When needing restroom breaks or taking other breaks, consider how the broadcast is impacted and find ways to minimize disruptions. Please check in with your coworkers before taking a break to ensure Mission-critical tasks are covered prior to clocking out.
In California, employees are entitled to
- Paid 10-minute Break: Provided every 4-hour period.
- Unpaid 30-minute Meal Break: Required if working over 5 hours in a day, starting before the fifth hour ends.
- Non-Lunch Breaks over 20 Minutes: Need management approval and might not be covered by payroll.
***NOTE: KPFA extends break regulations to volunteers. If volunteering for 4 or more hours in a day, you must take breaks and lunch. Coordinate with affected individuals.
