Antioch’s Police Texting Scandal; Flipping the Script on Asian Hate; Plus, Oakland Phases Out the Eviction Moratorium

The Antioch police texting scandal just gets worse and worse – what started off as 17 police officers in the 90-person department being accused of sending racist and homophobic messages has now surged to upwards of 50 officers – or 40% of the department – said to have been involved. Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe, a Black man, has called for an audit of the departments internal affairs department, as well as a review of the hiring and promotion policies in the department. We speak with KPFA Correspondent Frank Sterling.

Three AAPI led organizations here in the bay area have launched a new campaign tackling hate against the AAPI community. We are joined by Tony D., Executive Director of Youth Together; along with Mike Cheng, Deputy Director of Asian Prisoner Support Committee; and Nicole Lee, Executive Director of Urban Peace Movement.

Finally, we’re the Oakland eviction moratorium phase out plan is being heard today by the City Council. We’re joined by Councilmember Nikki Fortundao-Bas and AACE Attorney Leah Simon Weisberg.
