Academy Award-winning composer David Shire, whose scores include “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three,” “The Conversation,” “Norma Rae,” “All the President’s Men,” “Saturday Night Fever,” “Return to Oz,” and “Zodiac,” visits with host Derk Richardson and performs original music on the KPFA studio piano. Tony Ferro engineers the sound.
Shire is in the Bay Area for a two-day residency hosted by the San Francisco State University Department of Music. Bay Area composer and producer (and residency organizer) Steve Horowitz, who wrote score to the Academy Award-nominated film “Super Size Me,” as well as the Shire homage “The ReTaking of Pelham One Two Three,” will be on hand, as well.
