An all-star lineup of comics is waiting in the wings to lend support to Public Citizen – one of the nation’s preeminent public interest groups – at “Stand Up! for Main Street.” For 44 years, the take-no-prisoners consumer advocacy organization has been standing up to government and the undue influence of corporations. Now a number of hard-charging comics are returning the favor by doing stand-up for the watchdogs.
This first annual Stand Up! for Main Street show in San Francisco expands on the popular Stand Up! for Main Street benefit that Public Citizen has held in Los Angeles for the past four years.
Based in Washington, D.C., Public Citizen is a champion of the public interest in all branches of government. Public Citizen promotes public health and safety measures, works to reduce the influence of money in politics, pushes for Wall Street reform, presses for measures to address climate change, advances government transparency and more.
