Edicion de Cuatro: Four printmakers from Mission Grafica, an art exhibit currently at Meridian Gallery. Mission Grafica has been producing posters and prints since 1982 when Rene Castro and Jos Sances developed the studio. Art produced at Mission Grafica continues to express a social message and a definite Chicano/Latino fine arts esthetic. The rich history of printmaking in the U.S. and Latin America is profoundly linked in the works produced at the Mission Grafica studio. Artists like Juana Alicia, Rene Yanez, Ester Hernandez, Yolanda Lopez, Enrique Chagoya, Carmen Lomas Garza, and Rupert Garcia among many others have all produced work at Mission Grafica that is now collected and many works reside in private collections or museums. Mission Grafica now houses one of the largest archives of Chicano/Latino works on paper in the U.S. Following in this historical tradition established and emerging artists have continued to use Mission Grafica as a studio of exploration and creativity to produce new works. This upcoming exhibit will feature Mission Grafica artists/instructors Alexandra Blum, Mariana Garibay, Calixto Robles and Juan Fuentes.
