HELP Listening:
PC:
We recommend Winamp for our live and archived streams. We have found
that this player works best with our streams, with minimal stalling and
dropouts compared to other players. You can download the free version
here: www.winamp.com
We have also had reports that Realplayer 10 works well with our streams,
including the Ogg Vorbis stream.
MAC:
We have found that the Mac iTunes player works well with our streams.
We also recommend Whamb for Ogg and mp3 playback on OS X.
Linux/FreeBSD:
We recommend xmms for Linux/FreeBSD. Please let us know how other
players work for you.

Alternatives to our Main Stream
Below you'll find alternatives to our main mp3 stream, such as a stream for slow modems, an Ogg Vorbis stereo stream, and KFCF's mp3 stream:
KPFB
mono mp3 stream
good for slower modems
Click here for KPFB's 16 kbps mono mp3 stream
If that doesn't work, copy & paste this URL into the location bar
of your mp3 player:
http://aud1.kpfa.org:8080
This stream is good for slow modems or for problems our main 24kbps stream.
It's the same broadcast as KPFA's signal, except when pre-empted by Berkeley
School Board meetings, Berkeley City Council meetings, occasional webcasts,
or Youth Radio broadcasts.
Ogg Vorbis Stereo Stream
Ogg Vorbis is a fully open source, non-proprietary, patent-and-royalty-free,
general-purpose compressed audio format for mid to high quality audio
and music.
Visit the Ogg Vorbis Project
website to learn more.
Click here for KPFA's Ogg Vorbis stereo stream.
If that doesn't work copy and paste the following URL into the LOCATION
in your player:
http://aud1.kpfa.org:8090/kpfa.ogg
The bitrate seems to stabilize around 50KB/s so it should work for a good
quality dial-up.
We recommend
Winamp 5.0 for Windows/Mac (see note below), available here,
and xmms 1.2.5 for Linux/FreeBSD. Please let us know how other players
work for you.
Please send feedback about this stream to computing@kpfa.org
