The month is August, the year is 2022.    Since 1979, August has been a time, particularly in the black community, to commemorate black freedom fighters, to honor political prisoners, to condemn the horrific conditions of U.S. prisons, and to highlight black resistance against racial oppression.

Observers of Black August call for the immediate release of all political prisoners, including Leonard Peltier and Mumia Abu-Jamal.
