In Contra Costa County, there has been a massive effort called the Northern Waterfront Economic Development Initiative, which aims to re-industrialize the coastline along the Carquinez Strait.
It has been operating mostly behind closed doors, with minimal input from local residents. Launched in 2013, this initiative is an economic development revitalization “framework” led by Supervisors Federal Glover and Mary Piepho, and targets the towns of Hercules, Martinez, Concord, Pittsburg, Antioch, and Oakley, as well as unincorporated waterfront cities.
You are invited to join us for a meeting to learn about the current plan from county leaders, and then hear from community residents and organizations advocating for an alternate, sustainable vision towards clean air, water and soil, renewable energy and sustainable businesses. RSVP is required and a light lunch will be provided. Organized & Sponsored by Bay Area Refinery Corridor Coalition, and the Sierra Club SF Chapter.
The meeting takes place on Saturday August 15, from 10am to 1pm at 213 F Street, Antioch. For details, call 925-709-4295.
