The compelling film “100 Years From Mississippi” documents the life of Mamie Lang Kirkland and her family’s flight from a lynch mob in 1915. Upon her return to Mississippi as an elder, she and her son, Tarabu, connected with the Equal Justice Initiative and subsequently her story was featured on the front page of the New York Times.

The film plays this March at 2 Bay Area theaters. On Thursday, March 17, it screens at 7:30pm at the Elmwood Theater, located at 2966 College Avenue in Berkeley.

On Sunday, March 20, it plays at 2pm at the Roxie Theater, located at 3117-16th Street in San Francisco.

At both theaters, there’ll be a post screening Q&A with writer/director Tarabu Betserai Kirkland, a founding father of the First Voice Apprenticeship Program at KPFA.
