The San Francisco Bay Area has been graced with a plethora of talent, including phenomenal women such as Brenda Wong-Aoki, Tammy Hall, Denise Perrier, Kim Nalley, and the Monclair Women’s Big Band.
Today, celebrating International Women’s Day, we are thrilled to bring you the work of these local artists during the first half of Music of the World.
Additionally, during the second half of the show, we highlight the voice of resistance, with political protest song from South African women like Brenda Fassie, Dolly Rathebe, Dorothy Matsuka, Sibongile Khumalo, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Lebo Mathosa, Letta Mbulu and, of course, Miriam Makeba.
This show is made possible thanks to David McBurnie, host of Music of the World on Friday from 11am – noon, the KPFA music department, and your hosts as well as producers, Gabrielle Wilson-Williams and Safi wa Nairobi.
It is all happening on KPFA Radio, 94.1FM, and throughout cyberspace, www.kpfa.org, 11am Friday, the 8th March, on International Women’s Day. Tune in…
