Riots, Rebellion and Revolution: Forty Years Later

From Watts in Los Angeles to Newark, New Jersey, it’s a look at the events and the aftermath as The Radio Chronicles presents "Uprising," Sonali Kolhatkar’s excerpts of the documentary "Fire This Time," produced at KPFK in 1965 by Trevor Thomas. Included are excerpts from the documentary "Revolution ’67," and comments from this documentary’s producer, Marylou Tibaldo-Bongiorno, about storytelling through film, along with editor/animator Jerome Bongiorno. It’s "Riots, Rebellion and Revolution: Forty Years Later," this Sunday on The Radio Chronicles here on KPFA. Music includes Burning Spear’s "Slavery Days," The Beattles’ "Revolution," Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers’ "Police Brutality," and plenty jazz featured in "Revolution ’67." Special thanks to Shawn Dellis at the Pacifica Radio Archives, www.pacificaradioarchives.org.
